Who Was Kayode Peters?
Born on September 25, 1975, in Ibadan, Nigeria, Kayode Peters was a celebrated Nigerian filmmaker, actor, and director whose career spanned theatre, television, and film. He began his artistic journey on stage with Theatre 15 at the University of Lagos, where he studied English. His passion for storytelling led him to further his education, earning a master’s degree in Film & TV Production from the University of Greenwich in the UK and a diploma in digital marketing from Canada.
Peters officially entered Nollywood around the year 2000 and quickly became a household name through his work on some of Nigeria’s most loved sitcoms and productions. He produced and directed hit TV shows like Twilight Zone, Flatmates, My Flatmates, and Papa Ajasco, as well as popular stage plays such as Extended Family. His touch was known for blending humor with relatability, often portraying everyday Nigerian life with sharp wit and heart.
On the big screen, Peters delivered crowd pleasing films such as 13 Letters (2019), Crazy Grannies (2021), Dream Job (2021), and the international feature Excuse My African (2018), which was shot in New York City and showcased at several global film festivals.
Peters was also known for bridging the gap between Nigerian and diaspora narratives, particularly through his work in Canada. His contributions helped amplify African voices on international platforms and brought Nollywood stories to wider audiences.
